O g @RT76089177 Aug 12, 2025 Quite funny in parts but it loses focus and just evades a 3* rating. Would definitely watch more from Simon Amstell. See more Michael V @RT01374702 Mar 22, 2025 It's about my inability to love. But I'm fine now. Benjamin is a 2018 British comedy-drama feature film, written and directed by Simon Amstell ❤️ Not bad, but not my favourite either 😐 Meh, it passed the time. Just. 😐 👍🏼👎🏼 D Benjamin, a rising star filmmaker, is on the brink of premiering his difficult second film ’No Self' at the London Film Festival when Billie, his hard drinking publicist, introduces him to a mesmeric French musician called Noah. See more isla s @RT89656869 Sep 9, 2022 This is at times an endearing watch - it features quirky characters and while the start was a bit slow and I felt unsure of the plot direction, I ended up feeling quite keen on and sad for the main character, given the situation he finds himself in. Its very much a British film, set in England and it has a philosophical angle to it too. Its about insecurities, isolation and the fear of rejection. Some of the dialogue is fairly thought provoking - one quote I remember from a YouTube video that the titular character watched, was as follows - 'one way to be happy is to enjoy being sad'. Hmmm, thoughtful stuff indeed. A little 'out of the box' perhaps but there you go. Given this film was both written and directed by Simon Amstell, who is relatively new to directing, I believe, I thought this was a decent film. It may bore some and its by no means a big budget Hollywood type watch but then I didn't expect that. I certainly enjoyed it and I would recommend it on that basis. See more Feb 28, 2022 Makes you feel less alone (at least it did for me cos I'm very awkward) and shows a more realistic version of love compared to other films :)) See more paul w @RT61803694 May 2, 2021 I like my quirky indie comedy-romances as much as the next person, but I just didn't find this very funny. A game cast and some touching love scenes, but it only raises the odd smile. See more Read all reviews
