Critics Consensus

As wholesomely goofy as its heroes, Bill and Ted Face the Music is a rare long-belated sequel that largely recaptures the franchise's original charm.

Quickly collapses into something resembling a wobbly charity reunion, which fans may find themselves trying their hardest to enjoy through gritted teeth.

We could all do with a little dose of Bill and Ted's optimism - the simple belief that kindness and camaraderie can bring us all together.

It's totally excellent (cue air guitar) to rediscover a corner of this dulled universe where joy and innocence still shine.

The Bill and Ted series will endure as pop-culture classics, and this entry doesn’t let the brand down; it’s most awesome, totally non-bogus, and has a positive message...

In theory, it's nice to imagine that those amiable airheads Bill and Ted would have been the ones to save 2020 from being a complete downer, but this belated sequel feels more wheezy than anything.

It’s sweet and silly, with all the innocence and whimsy of the original films, and nary a cynical or sarcastic note in the entire journey.

Bill & Ted Face the Music is proof that two lovable idiots can still save the universe, even if they’re running five minutes late and have no idea what they’re doing. It’s goofy, sweet, and somehow more wholesome than a time-traveling history lesson with a guitar solo should be. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter bring the same big-hearted chaos, reminding us that kindness is still the ultimate superpower. A totally excellent reminder that sometimes the answer is just: be excellent and hope for the best.
