Critics Consensus

Even if the somewhat convoluted plot falls apart upon close inspection, Dead Again proves Kenneth Branagh has a solid knack for enjoyable pulp.

Be grateful for the genuine amusement Dead Again supplies. It may be cotton candy, but it's well spun.

His film is both a good mystery movie and a good movie-movie; its sheer "movieness" is what gives the picture its kick. As his career progressed, Branagh may very well have made better films than 'Dead Again.' But he never made another one this fun.

Logic is dull and all that jazz. What isn't dull, though, is the way Branagh as a director attacks this material.

This ambitious but sometimes silly follow-up to Branagh's directorial debut, Henry V, is a tense thriller kept afloat by its impressive cast and striking aesthetics more than the convoluted story itself.

Kenneth Branagh's dazzling thriller-noir remains one of the oddest and even funniest works he's done, a fantastic twisty narrative that builds to a scintillating finish.

Branagh, as he’s shown in recent years with his Agatha Christie adaptations, has a keen sense of how to keep his audience is suspense and sucker-punch surprise them...Also, the chemistry between the two lead actors is palpable.

Intriguing story, overly melodramatic as you might expect from Kenneth Branagh. It has a slightly light hearted feel to it at times dispite the dark nature of the story. Great cast and reasonable directing maybe going for a Hitchcock feel.

Dead Again is a thrilling and well-acted mystery film with strong performances from Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson. However, its melodramatic climax proved disappointing, as it undermines the film’s more serious tone.

A terrific mystery/suspense thriller. Kino Lorber's newly released Blu-ray looks and sounds great.

Highly contrived, embarrassing dialog and pathetic direction of the great actors who suffer to the plodding end.

3.5 stars; A 1990s version of a Noir mystery with a touch of reincarnation. But then again, that would be underselling an excellent cast, performing exceptionally well. The cast includes some of my favorites from that period: Uma Thurman and Andy Garcia, as well as appearances from Robin Williams. I had forgotten what a great acting/directing talent Kenneth Branagh was. This was a good mystery, and like any good Noir the ending had its twists and turns.

I love this movie. It's a beautiful, suspenseful, thriller. I think the casting is beautiful and Robin Williams was a perfect addition to the cast. And when I was super young I had a huge crush on Andy Garcia which helped, but great movie 10 out of 10
