Wimpy Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), now in seventh grade, thinks he has it all together. He has mastered middle school and gotten rid of the Cheese Touch. However, Greg's older brother, Rodrick (Devon Bostick), is itching to cut him down to size. He gets the perfect opportunity when their mother (Rachael Harris) tries to force the boys to bond. Rodrick may be Greg's chief tormentor, but he feels his constant pranks are just what his little brother needs to prepare him for life's hard knocks.

Critics Consensus

Moderately witty and acceptably acted, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 isn't much worse than the first installment.

It's an episodic film, rather less interesting than its British director David Bowers's earlier work as an animator in Britain and America. Go to Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) May 27, 2011

Even though this new movie is under another director, it feels very much like the first film. The characters are great, being both relateable and extreme. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Clinton P @RT23000 Sep 30, 2026 A BAD MOVIE? HUH? TRY RATING THIS ABSOLUTE CINEMATIC FILM AGAIN! See more Cruz A @bananaisw Sep 26, 2026 It's a pretty good movie See more Cinema S @cinema_sensei Aug 26, 2026 Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones are easily the best things here, but the movie's politics and storytelling really bothered me. The Yemenis are reduced to cartoonish villains, while the massacre is justified through increasingly manipulative reveals. The little girl with a gun especially felt like emotional propaganda rather than believable storytelling. Even the basic question of why non-lethal options weren't tried is barely addressed. There are interesting ideas about soldiers, politics, and rules of engagement, but the execution feels dishonest and shallow. If you're thinking otherwise it's maybe you've no problem with the propaganda, maybe cause it gives satisfaction about your Islamophobic narrative.
