This is a perfectly nice nature documentary that deserves its theatrical showcase, and that's really all there is to say. Go to Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Apr 27, 2017

As breathtaking as the imagery is...the script...is a mess of...goop. Granted, the narration is aimed at a young audience, and part of the pleasure in watching animals in the wild comes from observing the similarities and differences between them and us. John Krasinski narrates, and though he doesn't achieve that mix of gravitas and cheeky wit [of] Sir David Attenborough ... his vocal stylings are perfectly homey and serviceable for the task of guiding us through the lives of these special animals. While John Krasinski's jokey narration is filled with cringe-inducing clangers, the cuteness goes through the roof every time the mother panda and her tumbling tot take to the screen. Go to Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Apr 4, 2022

The documentary draws comparisons between human and animal behavior instead of thoroughly exploring the species on display - an increasingly reductive approach that insists upon applying an Orientalist perspective. Go to Full Review Leigh Monson Substream Magazine Sep 24, 2020

If your goals are little more than to see cute animals on a big screen, Born in China will meet that need. Just don't expect to get much more from the experience than some fuzzy feelings that will quickly evaporate after the credits Go to Full Review Read all reviews
