Critics Consensus

Well-made but extremely predictable, Domestic Disturbance is an average thriller that may work better on TV.

A fog of by-the-numbers clichs, unbelievable coincidences, and blatant theft from Hitchcock.

A TV movie of the week, and not a good one at that. How talents such as Travolta and Vaughn wound up in this clunker is beyond me.

In a movie that casts as Vince Vaughn as its primary psychotic villain, it becomes plainly obvious that the studios just aren't even trying.

Dreadful. Travolta and Vaughn are in a movie long struggle for the worst line readings and acting. Completely perplexing characters and plot structure.

Domestic Disturbance is a mediocre thriller from Paramount that never quite lives up to its premise. It has the setup for something tense and interesting, but the film ends up feeling flat and underwhelming overall. The biggest weakness is the cast, especially the lead performances. Even with names like John Travolta, Vince Vaughn, Teri Polo, Steve Buscemi, and Matthew O'Leary, the movie never really finds strong chemistry or convincing energy. The story also struggles to keep the suspense going. Instead of building real tension, it relies on material that feels predictable and forgettable, which makes the film hard to stay invested in. Overall, Domestic Disturbance is a disappointing thriller that had potential but never came together in a satisfying way. It is watchable, but only just a 4/10 for me, possibly a worth to watch for the 2nd time

This movie is hysterical, you have to watch it from a "so bad it’s good" point of view- it’s like what happens when big stars agree to let high schoolers direct a movie. You have to watch for these moments- like when they are honoring the stepfather at a big banquet and John travolta is waiting outside, and everyone at the banquet leaves together out one door in a big group, as if it were a fire drill- lol. If you watch for these scene gems, and there are many, you will love this movie

Although predictable, I found this film to be an entertaining 90 minute movie.
