Critics Consensus

Earth Girls Are Easy is messy, silly, and not particularly bright -- qualities it comes by honestly and deliberately.

As funny and silly as ever, it's even more interesting to watch as a period piece, exulting in the dream of the San Fernando Valley of the 1980s.

This is deliberately, gleefully vacuous entertainment, and any satirical edge is blunted by the film's obvious affection for its subject.

A lot of it is still funny, and the performances are charming. But if anyone born in 1990 or later watched this movie, they probably wouldn’t understand half of what happens. (35th anniversary)

This is a movie that raises its bad taste as a defiant banner, which will have sworn defenders and staunch enemies. [Full review in Spanish]

Earth Girls Are Easy manages to both subvert and give in to the conventions of its time, creating a work so singularly absurd and campy, you can't not enjoy it.

The song Earth girls are easy was off of Julie Brown's album Goddess in Progress. The song became the basis for the movie. Other Julie Brown songs in the film are brand new girl & cause I'm a blond. Geena Davis & Jeff goldblum were dating at the time was being made. They married during production. There was a lot of shenanigans between Jim Carrey & Damon Wayans on & off the set. While most of the cast found them playful & comical. Julie Brown felt both Carrey & Wayans weren't always easy to work with. But did admit she thought they were both incredibly talented. Michael McKean played Woody a Jeff Spicoli like character. The aliens look like larger versions of Teletubbies. This movie a silly Syfy spoof. The Film is like valley girl meets starman.

Earth Girls Are Easy is a goofy, silly little movie that's still as fun as I've always found it to be. The film leans into its own absurdity, and that's precisely what makes it so charming. I love the movie's mix of vibrant colors, catchy songs, and outlandish premise. It's a perfect escape into a world where everything is just a little bit ridiculous, and it's all the better for it.

If you’re looking for a corky, funny and sweet , light , romantic sci-fi I highly recommend this movie. it’s totally weird but in all the right ways. You’ll laugh so much and be completely entertained. It’s a mixture of the movie Barbie meets Alien Nation .
