Emma X @alfreda_huns25 Jul 17 One of the best sci-fi/ dystopian themed films I've ever watched! Amazing sets of the scenes and props and camera shots, special effects ahead of time. Most importantly the theme is very encouraging and meaningful, with a profound discussion regarding to the dilemma faced by marginalized individuals in a new societal structure where the advantages of genes and congenital gifts are ultimately enlarged while personal acquired skills and strengths are eliminated and ignored. This film is recommended by my biology teacher who taught us for one semester in 2026. See more Fernando M @RT76471198 Jul 7 I didn’t see this in theaters, but it’s the kind of movie that makes you realize you don’t need special effects, gunfights, car chases, or anything like that to create something truly different. And it is different. I absolutely love that the astronauts wear actual suits, business suits, Hugo Boss style, and the rockets look like they’re straight out of the 1950s. Where are they going? How do they get there? Does it matter? Not at all. The only weak point, if you can even call it that, is how easily the main character manages to get past the daily genetic screenings. Other than that, everything works. I’ve watched it countless times, and I wouldn’t hesitate to watch it again if there’s nothing better on. It’s one of those movies that quietly stays with you. It never tries to impress you with spectacle, yet it leaves a much stronger impression than many big budget productions. Sometimes less really is more. I saw this film approximately 29 years ago, It was Showtime movie - afternoon feature. It deals with a gifted paraplegic, Jeremy - in a battle with his brother to be the apple in the eye, in some kind of race for the program (nasa like ) needing ongoing innoculations, he has to accept, coming to terms - themes of inferiority, imperfection - competition and Rocketry . It sort of turns into this competition for her heart - a sort of minimalist Jetson esk sci fi - with a fantastic rocket launch in the background during the plateau of the reality. I think this was a calming dose of reality or influence during my formative years. See more Read all reviews
