Critics Consensus

Goldfinger is where James Bond as we know him comes into focus - it features one of 007's most famous lines ("A martini. Shaken, not stirred.") and a wide range of gadgets that would become the series' trademark.

Goldfinger allows nothing to impede its sense of humour: it converts Bond into a human equivalent of the cat in the Tom and Jerry cartoons, with the same ghastly resilience and the same capacity for absorbing punishment.

Ours not to reason why with "Goldfinger"; ours but to gape and admire; which is very easy and enjoyable until the story's iceberg of extravagance finally appears in its true proportions.

Bond is grittier in this action role while still holding on to his sleek and handsome charm. But more importantly, the Bond girls change, definitely for the better.

While the first two-thirds of this movie significantly deserves its prestige reputation in culture, with an incredibly engaging plot, great antagonist, technology that is remarkably advanced for its time, great action scenes and a great performance from Sean Connery. However, the film starts to fumble at the 1hr 15 min mark, with the plot getting more and more boring since then, making it a fun, but not perfect film.

Sections of the movie haven't held up well. They are cartoonishly bad. Viewers seeing Goldfinger for the first time aren't impressed.

Goldfinger is my favourite James Bond movie. It is a brilliant film with lots of action, an interesting story and the theme by Dame Shirley Bassey is wonderful.
