Refusing to go to school, anxious 16-year-old Tori (played by Malia Baker) is driven by her mother to her grandfather's remote cabin on a frozen lake. Far from her urban lifestyle, Tori struggles to adapt to the woodsman ways of her grandfather Benoit (played by Roy Dupuis). But she must embrace the outdoors if she is to survive the deadly game of cat and mouse into which she is suddenly thrown. With Tori gradually finding her inner animal and will to fight, the film carries a message of teenage mental resilience. The pace is moody and atmospheric at first, then intense and unrelenting.

The action is empty and rote, marred by lethargic direction and low light cinematography that does the actors, sets, and natural beauty of the Manitoba wilderness all a huge disservice. Go to Full Review Jim Slotek Original Cin Mar 5, 2026

There are "beats" they could use to make the storytelling smoother. But, given this is Trudeau and McLellan’s first time doing this, they have managed to create a workable revenge story that gets you to the "revenge" part with only a few distractions. Mark W @RT36367652 Aug 17, 2026 for a low budget film the setting is beautiful, the leading actress performs her role believably, A lot was covered in 92 minutes but i think i could easily watch hours of interactions between Tori and her grandfather. whilst good in its own right i honestly believe it would have been even better without the brothers story line and ending more wholesomely. still a must see imo. See more Nicole W @RT84091282 Mar 17, 2026 Hair of the Bear is a film I found myself connecting to very quickly. I became emotionally invested in the main character, whose struggles feel very real and reflective of what many teenagers face today. Her journey takes her off the grid and pushes her to discover a strength within herself that she didn’t know she had. The film is very poignant and emotional, showing her growth from someone facing difficult challenges into a true heroine. I especially appreciated how the story kept me on the edge of my seat. It had many moments where I was guessing what would happen next, and there were several surprises and even a few shocks along the way. Overall, Hair of the Bear is an emotional and suspenseful movie about resilience, self-discovery, and finding courage in difficult circumstances. See more Read all reviews
