Critics Consensus

A B-movie with an A-level commitment to entertain, Harpoon should hit the target with horror fans in the mood for gory, darkly humorous antics on the open water.

"Harpoon" offers stylish compositions, amusing running gags and sharp, snappy dialogue. It's a sparse, nasty little thriller.

Grant adds lots of fisticuffs and gore to the proceedings, but it's Gelman's voice that answer's the narrative's numerous SOS calls.

I was impressed by [director] Rob Grant's ability to accomplish a lot with a little and in a very confined space.

Rob Grant's Harpoon exudes all the sly confidence of a well-prepared and half-in-the-bag wedding table orator.

A black comedy horror from Rob Grant. More polished than last year's Alive, but with some forgivable flaws.

Surprisingly solid for an indie low budget movie. The story is properly fleshed out and the characters are well-written. The acting was mediocre, but convincing enough to overlook as the narrative was so compelling. While not the most original movie, it’s gripping and worth watching once.

Critics think this is a better movie than Fight Club. This isn't a better movie than Wild Things (Kevin Bacon and gang). It's a played-out premise of friends turning on each other. There is nothing to salvage it. The water is pretty, but not explored AT ALL. There is NO horror, and VERY mild "gore". The ending is dumb. None of the characters are likable or worth rooting for. The only saving grace is the relatively short run time.

Had a great time watching this! It was the perfect horror/black comedy combo without unintentionally being like "Scary Movie" levels of absurdity. The thriller element was on point too - I did not foresee the ending.
