Critics Consensus

Though Hit & Run has some surprisingly oft-kilter filmmaking, the action doesn't add to much and the writing's a bit smug.

Shepard wrote the script and co-directed with David Palmer (Brother's Justice), constructing an ideal vehicle for the real-life couple's spirited banter. Go to Full Review

There is a lot of boring Clarksonian chatter about motorcars, but, inhibited by a modest budget, the stunts prove to be depressingly unspectacular. Go to Full Review

It's amiable, but the more miles it clocks up, the more this film looks like a vanity vehicle for its co-director, writer and star, Dax Shepard. Go to Full Review

Hit & Run is very much hit and miss. The plot careers all over the place and a lot of the jokes definitely sputter, but with the laidback, goofy Shepard at the wheel, the film somehow keeps on the road. Go to Full Review

I went into Hit & Run with the lowest possible expectations, and even then I'm not so sure it met them. Go to Full Review

HIT AND RUN is a film that turns out to be more than the sum of its parts, even if it ends up feeling a bit generic and stupid. Go to Full Review

Belle P. @Belle.P 15h Cute but very goofy. See more Dakota H @bakintoast 4d This movie having such a middling overall score is perplexing to me. It balances comedy, action, romance, even car culture, so well. It manages to be both heartfelt and irreverent, action-packed and intelligent, romantic and down-to-earth. This has been one of my favorite movies for years; not once did my most recent re-watch make me doubt my love for this film. The only thing I can think of for its subpar reviews is that it's too self-aware of the medium it occupies, Randy's incompetence borders on impossibility, or that it's too 'snarky'/sarcastic, like what a grounded Deadpool-like would be produced. Anyone reading this in the year 2026+, don't mind the negative reviews (especially the one saying it doesn't have enough action. The whole point is that it's not an over-the-top action-fantasy spectacle a la Michael Bay). It's a truly authentic take on an action rom-com based in some possible reality. At no point watching this did I feel like my time was wasted. Absolute banger movie. See more John T. @johnisinareyouin Jan 11 It’s rare when I disagree with both critic and audience ratings on here. But this one is very underrated. I believe it’s a great execution for what it intended to be—an entertaining romantic action comedy. See more Chris R @Creeves Jan 9 I'll be darned if I didn't like the characters. They're fun, See more Bryan B Nov 11 This has everything I can want in a movie. No clue what the bad reviews are all about other than people who don’t like action, drama, comedy and romance tried watching an action, drama, comedy and romance movie.
