When his young children are abducted by his old nemesis, Capt. Hook (Dustin Hoffman), middle-aged lawyer Peter Banning (Robin Williams) returns to his magical origins as Peter Pan. Peter must revisit a foggy past in which he abandoned Neverland for family life, leaving Tinkerbell (Julia Roberts) and the Lost Boys to fend for themselves. Given their bitterness toward Peter for growing up -- and their allegiance to their new leader, Rufio -- the old gang may not be happy to see him.

It's not fair to kids. With all his technical flair, Spielberg has created the equivalent of the 70-year-old with dyed hair, troweled makeup, in tie-dyes and high tops. And in doing that, messed with Neverland. Spielberg is old enough to know better.

The result is his most sentimental film, because unlike E.T. it refuses to take up residence within a child's mind, preferring to stay outside and fantasise about it. Condescension is no way to treat a fable.

I admit that I might not be an "objective reviewer" as this film is very nostalgic to my childhood. But this film has a very high rewatchability. My kids now request this and on rewatch I’m very unclear on why Stephen Spielberg thought this wasn’t a good film. Unpopular opinion, Robin Williams is at his best here. Dustin Hoffman as Hook really does breathe life into this believable villain. This movie is exactly what it strives to be: a really fun imaginative retelling and spin off of a timeless children’s story.

How can you trust any of these reviews when this masterpiece gets a rotten rating? It's 2025 and if you show this to your kids they will absolutely fall in love. This is the Harry Potter of the 90's. Dustin Hoffman nails this role!

The fact that this movie got canned by critics remains to be one of my biggest gripes in Cinema to date. The movie is truly a huge sprinkling of Spielberg magic with a truly triumphant score by John Williams and a cast delivering rememberable performances across the board. The messages it conveys are simple yet wholly relevant. Not a perfect movie and nor does it try to be but what you get is a treat for the entire family with great call backs to the animated Disney Classic. By the end of this movie you will indeed fight. you will crow and you will fly with excitement. 4/5
