Critics Consensus

This fact-based romantic comedy has its flaws, but they're mostly overcome by its consistently sweet, funny tone and one of the best performances of Jim Carrey's career.

The movie wants us to overlook its implausibility by insisting that it's all true. We believe it, we just don't care.

This is the most interesting role Carrey has had in a long while.

Jim Carrey is the narrator... transforming what could have been a cliched con man comedy, generic Jim Carrey-character comedy or run-of-the-mill gay coming-out comedy into something smarter, sweeter and downright giddy.

Carrey delivers a great performance that's right down the middle of his impressive range - between a little bit of Liar Liar and some The Truman Show. [Full review in Spanish]

With a solid script and daring performances, the film is enjoyable and will inevitably become a cult classic in spite of some of its uneven gags. [Full review in Spanish]

rotten tomatoes apparently is now having the decade old "something went wrong" issue when leaving a star rating, which confirms my suspicions that this was not due to the content of the reviews in the first place. this site is awful, and getting worse especially due to the new popups we get every single time we open it. i love you phillip morris is an excellent and hilarious film, and i give it a solid 85%. on this website, it gets 2/5 until someone decides to stop putting more holes in this leaky bucket.

Very entertaining! I knew nothing about this movie, never heard of it, accidentally found a clip from it with Jim Carrey and it was enough for me to add it to my watchlist. Frankly this movie has everything that makes a great watch for me, I laughed and almost cried and went through all sorts of emotions. What I really love about this movie is that it’s not trying too hard to be perfect or great, it’s very well written and rounded. In the comedy/crime department it’s a success for me!
