Critics Consensus

Incident in a Ghost Land may satisfy horror fans in search of a nasty kick, but it's narratively flawed and decidedly not for the squeamish.

An effectively punishing critique of the relentless misogyny that has become a staple of every stupid Texas Chain Saw Massacre knockoff that pits sexually active women against emotionally disturbed serial killers.

Laugnier meticulously showcases sadism while seeming comparatively indifferent to matters of basic storytelling logic and suspense.

Transphobia and misogyny flow through the film as much as blood, staining what might have been a solid genre effort.

I can’t say it’s an enjoyable movie, but it is good. I enjoy it on the level that it truly did play with my expectations and perception, which for a grizzled horror movie reviewer counts for a lot.

...it is not the gross-out factor that turns me off from Laugier’s second attempt at martyrdom, it is the casual virulence towards his characters...

Laugier makes many questionable choices regarding the film's villains, but those issues aside he has still managed to craft a bleak, visceral and deeply upsetting horror film.

Decent horror movie, interesting start, not everyone will like it but I thought it was pretty cool. Decent horror flick for horror fans

WTF! This movie was all over the place. Before the plot 'twist', I was saying to myself, why hasn't the mother put Vera into a mental hospital. Or, at the very least, why hasn't the mother gotten her out of that house? Then AFTER the plot twist, why are Vera and Beth STAYING in that house? This movie was just to fantastic for me to do my usual "suspension of logical thinking" when watching movies, especially horror movies. So I must admit that I didn't finish watching this movie ... just too much illogical silliness (what is it with the dolls???) for me. And, perhaps even worse than that -- I am NOT entertained by watching the sadistic torture of anyone, especially children.

Ok so I found this very disturbing to watch. I began to quickly realise that I was not watching my usual escapism of a horror, it definitely took me back to Texas chain saw massacre and the wrong turn. I found the pot twist good but all in all pushing the boundaries with sexual torture of females which I found hard to stomach. Definitely shocked me , definitely had me scared but overall just felt physically sick after watching. Disgusting play on perverted child themes and grotesque kidnap fantasies. The psychological plot twist did give it merit though.
