AM P @AnzanderP Oct 2, 2026 Wonderful and smart, with a flaw. There's so much to like here: an awareness of social class and backstabbing, notes that feel quite close to le Carre in places. You can think of Michael Caine's Harry Palmer as being a bit like le Carre's Peter Guillam, or perhaps Toby Ezterhazy. Cinematography here is absolutely top notch an interesting widescreen "economy" format called "Techniscope", splitting 35 mm frames in half to get a grainy, widescreen format (also used to great effect by Italian directors, like Sergio Leone). There's a bit of a clunky part of the story, to do with the obsession with brainwashing, a theme that was very much oart of the time, government experiments and more . .. but this goes on just a bit too long otherwise, its a treat. Michael Caine is terrific, the man has charm, although he also has too much distracting eye makeup . . . but he's got movie star charisma. And the rest of the cast is wonderful too. So highly recommended. See more Hiwatt M @RT12406320 Jan 18, 2026 Very well done movie. Superb cinematography, very sparse understated dialogue, just fantastic direction with great use of humor- but sparing. Highly recommend this movie; the only reason I didn't give five full stars is because the final scenes and wrap up seemed rushed and contrived a bit. Was very well done up to this point. This cool, clever spy film has everything: tension, wit, and that effortless 1960s style. It’s not just another spy movie — it’s sharp, smart, and unforgettable. See more Alec C @RT70643905 Mar 16, 2024 In this espionage thriller, no one can be relied upon, not even your surperiors! Harry Palmer is tasked with investigating the brainwashing of scientists with his only clue being the mysterious "IPCRESS" file that points to the heart of the conspiracy. Michal Caine adds his signature charm to this iconic thriller with plenty of twists and turns, leaving us unsure of who to trust! See more Read all reviews
