Critics Consensus

Despite some iffy plot elements, The Italian Job succeeds in delivering an entertaining modern take on the original 1969 heist film, thanks to a charismatic cast.

Exciting heist film for teens and their families.

This one offers some agreeably mindless fun in which the villains (including Norton) are truly villainous, the payback is satisfying in a purely infantile way, and the familiarity of everything is oddly comforting.

Itresembles a film made up on the fly. The cast, too, are strictly cut from comic books. Don't expect any unconventional endings either.

The support cast isn't much better. Jason Statham just repeats his Transporter role, while the permanently grumpy Norton has made it clear his participation was a result of contractual obligation...

It is in Gray's spirited execution that such by-the-book formula makes for a brisk, slick entertainment hits the summer movie spot.

Pretty good movie. It's entertaining throughout. Actors do a really good job of really sticking to their parts and each provides something unique to the film.

How this movie made me feel in one word: Thrilled. I had a lot of fun revisiting this film. The cast is stacked, the plot is straightforward and the heist is a blast. Also, the character nicknames are excellent (Handsome Rob, Left Ear, The Napster) I remember watching this film when I was 10 years old and being awestruck by the intricacies of the job. Here I am now, eager to show it to my 10-year-old. The film ended and I was grinning from ear to ear. Best Character: Lyle Best Quote: "I had. A bad. Experience." - Left Ear (Honorable mention to: "Yeah, you're not too bright, are you?... Perfect." - Lyle (imitating Handsome Rob) Best Scene: Dropping the Armored Truck Best Piece of Score: "The New Plan"

Whilst it’s got none of the charm or style of the first one, this is an adequate heist film that is only tarnished by Wahlberg being such a terrible actor and Theron being very unconvincing. In fact it was Norton who objected to appearing in this film who adds the best performance. Watched on Amazon Prime.

If you are looking for a film that is quick witted and won't bore you then this is the place. It is fast paced and funny with some decent acting coming from the characters. It is always hard for me to see Mark Wahlberg as anything except Marky Mark. That image is burned in my mind forever. As an actor though he is pretty good. This movie is a must see for action fans who like to see a few little twists and turns. Donald Sutherland and Edward Norton are strong characters. Really fun movie.
