Kris M @RT29539356 Jun 30, 2026 What a fantastic film. Watched it many many times and again today after buying it on DVD. Easy watching shoot em up. See more Blu B @RT43513976 Jun 24, 2025 Ever wonder what would happen if you took the classic Yojimbo movie and mixed it with a 1920's Noir & Spaghetti Western asetics? You'd get this and...it's mixed to say the least. The cinematography isn't bad. It's got tons of production value. The lighting is cool, distinct camerawork and decent direction but a lot of scenes are also just boring or very over the top action wise. Scenes like the sheriff delivering plot expose for 5 minutes just talking is soooo boring and lots of this movie is just people talking half the time. The dialouge isn't anything special but not terrible either. Everything else is alright I guess. The thing is it feels like the plot is jumpy and unfocused setting up the different subplots, never really properly setting up Willis's relationship with the two different gangs, and just jumping around between the two constantly and everything inbetween. Willis himself is ok at best. His performance here is one step above the performance he gave in Striking Distance. Everyone else except Bruce Dern who isn't bad, is very forgettable and emotionless half the time. I swear this is trying to make a very simple plot that has been done a ton of times unneedly more complicated by structuring it into a Noir almost with how jumpy and complex it gets. It makes sense enough but the characters are boring, the execution is nothing special, and it just makes thing complicated for no reason and doesn't add anything in the way of taking a classic story and retelling it. Lion King/Hamlet or Ran/King Lear this isn't. Skip this and watch Yojimbo/Fistful of Dollars or a really good noir/neo noir instead. M @RT91944882 Dec 23, 2024 A highly americanized, neo-noir version of the classic cinematic tales told by masters Akira Kurosawa in Yojimbo and Sergio Leone in A Fistful Of Dollars, this time taking place in 1920s prohibition era Texas. This movie pumps up the action and lead to a crisp, which gets comical and very out of tone in some parts. The characterization of it's protagonist is confusing, as it's the story itself: for around the 25 minute mark, the plot becomes borderline incomprehensible and i could only get back at understanding what was happening around the 60-70 minute mark on this 100 minute movie. However, for as bad as the 2nd act is, the 1st and 3rd act make it up with awesome acting by Bruce Willis as the protagonist and Christopher Walken as his rival; enjoyable, worthwhile action, alongside great effects and production design that both aged really well. And nevertheless, the 2nd act, again, for as bad as it is, still is nowhere near boring, and, as they say: "I would have bad than boring". See more Read all reviews
