Best pals Ryan (Jake Johnson) and Justin (Damon Wayans Jr.) are stalled in their respective careers -- a fact that is painfully driven home when they go to a college reunion. Dressed as police in the mistaken belief that they were to attend a costume party, Ryan and Justin find that the uniforms earn them much respect and attention. What to Know

Critics Consensus

Damon Wayans, Jr. and Jake Johnson have comedic chemistry; unfortunately, Let's Be Cops fails to do anything with it.

At this point Let's Be Cops loses much of its humour and starts looking like a film Liam Neeson will turn up in any time soon. That's a pity because the first half, about two doofuses playing police, is funny and occasionally sharp. Go to Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) Nov 11, 2014

The depressingly putrid level of mainstream Hollywood comedy these days is on display in LET'S BE COPS. Go to Full Review Richard Brody The New Yorker Sep 22, 2014
The chillingly gung-ho darkness that Johnson lends his comic riffs would be the story, if only the director, Luke Greenfield, didn't play the movie solely for laughs, which are few and far between. Go to Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Jul 20, 2025

The writers have the potential of a unique idea and a decent pair of leads to work with, but it's the real cop stuff that bogs the film down. Go to Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Feb 1, 2021

The high energy screwball tone of the first hour makes way for a low-rent looking Bad Boys homage in the final half-hour, becoming the very kind of movie it attempted to satirize in the first place. Go to Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Sep 14, 2020

Ends up being a mostly unfunny comedy about characters we don't particularly care about in a situation that doesn't really matter. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

jeneffer D @RT43782141 May 19, 2026 Hilarious. I found this movie too many years later but I am glad I did. It is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time See more Ed R @JustcallmeER May 17, 2026 One of the funniest buddy cop movies I guarantee you will watch! See more Ron T @Ron750 Apr 2, 2026 Totally stupid, unrealistic, slapstick comedy. Loved it. Sometimes you just want to shut your brain off, laugh and enjoy a bromantic movie. Definitely not a chick flick. Don’t try these antics at home, it’s a comedy, not a documentary. And a video game that shows how hard it is to be a cop, and encourages respect for authority is sorely needed. Our "geniuses" in government, academia and the judicial system have pretty much screwed up law and order. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Mar 7, 2026 Funny action movie in 1 hour and 44 minutes. See more Jordan S. @jswez Feb 23, 2026 Nothing new in this buddy cop comedy, but if you’re a fan of Jake Johnson or Damon Wayans Jr, you’ll enjoy it. See more Jack F @MovieFan111 Jan 21, 2026 There was one line in the movie, where one of the main guys asked the girl "Is that your real name or your stripper name?" I never forgot that line, and it's sooo funny. If someone you know (or don't know) has an uncommon name, I don't recommend you tell this line to them. (Although that would be hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) See more Read all reviews
