Aimless Vann Siegert (Owen Wilson) takes a bizarre turn in life and becomes a serial killer, tracking down the miserable, the self-destructive and those who otherwise seem willing to die. His first victim is wretched junkie Casper (Sheryl Crow). After disposing of her body, Siegert rents a room from turbulent couple Jane and Doug Durwin (Mercedes Ruehl, Brian Cox). From there, Siegert plots his murders, gets work at the post office and falls deeper and deeper into a psychotic haze.

Critics Consensus

While its subdued thrills and lack of answers may prove frustrating, The Minus Man delivers a chillingly measured performance from Owen Wilson.

Owen Wilson, who can look reassuring or not, depending on how much tension he allows into his face, finds the right insidious, ingratiating tone for Van.

Beyond the stylization of the drama, Fancher also demonstrates an ear for poetic language, flat yet flowering, capturing some unspecified damage in each character’s way of speaking.

A peculiar off beat story of a serial killer. Moody and surreal. A good movie, but ending leaves too many unanswered questions. So many questions that it makes you wonder what was the point. Still, oddly worth a watch.

Great pre release publicity blurb about “ talking about it three days afterwards “ The Classic Hour of The Wolf by Ingemar Bergman is like that . However that was conceived by a genius . The Minus Man isn’t genius . It is what I call competent mediocre. The acting , directing, and story is good enough but film overall just doesn’t crossover that Classic or Cult Classic line . I get that leading characters need not be immediately scintillating and seductive but taking this into consideration I still maintain Minus Man is not Art . Film fans of this film might think I am being to lofty hard on it but the Creators of Minus Man do have those ambitions for their project and it falls short .

Bored out of my mind. Good talent assembled. But you just wait for it to get clever or interesting and it never does. Had a surreal feel to it, but just tedious.
