Director Nathaniel Kahn barely knew his father, but many throughout the world did. He was renowned architect Louis Kahn, who designed noteworthy buildings in California, Texas and even Bangladesh. Nathaniel explores his father's past, interviewing architects such as Frank O. Gehry, as well as members of the multiple families started by the philandering Louis. What emerges is a portrait of a brilliant but unreliable man whose creations, which are featured prominently in the film, still astound.

The young Kahn is not a graceful filmmaker. Yet the subject matter is engrossing for anyone interested in architecture and also one of its greatest practitioners. Go to Full Review Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel Mar 19, 2004

Isn't a bad place to begin if you're curious about architecture and don't know much about Louis Kahn. Go to Full Review Lisa Kennedy Denver Post Mar 19, 2004
The finest achievement of My Architect is the way the son locates the light of his father's personality. Go to Full Review Jas Keimig The Stranger (Seattle, WA) Feb 23, 2022
Nathaniel Kahn's My Architect is a poignant documentary about Nathaniel's journey to make sense of his late father, influential architect Louis Kahn. Go to Full Review Robert Davis Paste Magazine Jun 3, 2008
Overall [Nathaniel Kahn's] attempt to find his father in his buildings, scars and all, is credible and well-paced, with neat visual rhymes that circle back to points raised earlier. Go to Full Review Kam Williams Princeton Town Topics May 2, 2007

What makes this movie riveting is not its subject, but the huge hole evident in the biographer's soul, a space he desperately tries to fill by speaking with those once close to his father. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Jan 16, 2019 I'm in this movie. However Rotten tomatoes has the WRONG RICHARD KATZ!!! Please fix this screwup in the cast list. Thanks See more May 29, 2016 Fantastic documentary made by the son of the great genius Louis Kahn. It covers the deep flaws of his personal life and also the flaws and great successes of his working life. Kahn was a workolic who managed to find time to have two or three families on the go at once, he was a bit of a 'travelling man'. Also, a contender for the greatest architect of the 20th century. See more Feb 16, 2016 loved the soundtrack See more Feb 15, 2016 Enlightening doc on Kahn's interesting (triple-)life and works. Being the subject's son, the documentarian is intrinsically an important piece of the story, but it quickly becomes clear how profoundly Louis Kahn affected so many others as well. Fortuitously many of these others are also quite the character themselves. Totalmente recomendable.
