Orion never quite bores or frustrates, though it rarely excites beyond its quirky premise and implications. As exciting as this type of feature can be, undeniable cracks show in how little it dazzles. Go to Full Review

If the beginning of Orion is disappointing in retrospect ... the third act is a letdown in the moment. Go to Full Review

A riveting, intelligent, meticulously crafted psychological sci-fi thriller [with] more detail, less information. That is the visual, aural, and thematic language of ORION...Orion is a film of discovery. Go to Full Review

Kevin L @Lakeman 2 days ago This is hard sci-fi. It centers on the cerebral, the psychological side of the genre. Seems a good deal of the 1-star level (or so) reviews are from those who think space opera is sci-fi. Those ppl want lasers, warp drive, bad guys in elaborate garb, & pew pew shooting. They think anything dealing w/ outer space & aliens is sci-fi. Not true; otherwise "Alf" would be science fiction. Mostly this is a psychological tête-à-tête struggle between the two leads characters. Can either trust the other? It takes on language as both a weapon & a hurdle. It also deals w/ how vulnerable our sense of identity becomes when we can't trust our own memory. And there's the govt's insistence to control & weaponize alien/foreign tech or intelligence rather than understand it. Strong work by Van Acker & McCarthy, w/ good support performances that keep the story authentic. Director Bouwer & writer Vithayathil did themselves proud. I also liked the effects on & look of the alien life force. 3.2 stars See more Fred D @scififanatic_203 3 days ago I love how meta it is that the character Jim calls the slow burn. I think once more people know about this movie its going to catch fire. Its very cerebral and thought-provoking. Apollo's second act monologue is epic. If you don't get this one then maybe go read a book and come back See more Anna B 4 days ago Started out strong then fizzled out. Too many plot twists made it contrived at the end See more Pmustang T @Pmustang 4 days ago I've thought long and hard about how to describe this The best I can come up with is: You've had a weekend of gluttonous overeating You get back home and prepare for a tremendous life changing bowel movement that will free you from pressure and clear your system You have an amazing book to read. Some soft music playing and no one in the house to interrupt You recently purchased a Japanese toilet that will bathe you when finished You begin and........after a tremendous fart echoing into the bowl.......absolutely fuck all happens and you leave both unsatisfied and also confused as to what the fuck just happened See more Bruce M @BruceMc Oct 2, 2026 Fortunately quite short, because "Orion" is basically a two-set stage play. Exceptionally boring, not much of a story, but some good sound and set design and a good performance by Andrew McCarthy. Not a whole lot going on here that we haven't seen before.
