Frans B @FransB 4 days ago Technically superb but a bit bland in storytelling. Entertaining nonetheless if you are a child perhaps? Interesting take Robert Zemeckis directed here. Great cinematography and visually stunning. Stellar cast all excels in character. See more Tyler S @tylerking24 Aug 20, 2026 An unnecessary "remake" with solid performances. And I use the word remake lightly because this was not that. It was a reimagining. See more America I @RT34958892 Jun 15, 2026 Presented as a product of Walt Disney Pictures, Depth of Field, and ImageMovers, Disney's Pinocchio from 2022 represents a bold reimagining of Carlo Collodi's classic tale. With a star-studded cast including Tom Hanks and Cynthia Erivo, and the vocal talents of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the titular puppet, the film aims to breathe new life into a beloved narrative. However, the journey to bring this wooden boy to life on screen was a winding one, marked by shifts in creative direction and directorial changes, from the initial interest of Jim Henson in the 1980s to Robert Zemeckis taking the helm. The musical landscape of the film is rich, featuring a blend of original songs composed by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard alongside iconic pieces from the 1940 animated classic, with Cynthia Erivo delivering a notable rendition of "When You Wish Upon a Star." See more Chris P @Xiao_Proxies Apr 14, 2026 Disney's 2022 live-action Pinocchio, directed by Robert Zemeckis, attempts to recreate the charm of the 1940 animated masterpiece but falls short in most areas. It's not unwatchable, but it lacks the emotional depth and narrative magic that made the original so timeless. Tom Hanks delivers a solid performance as Geppetto, bringing warmth to the role, but the rest of the film feels oddly mechanical. The CGI, especially for Pinocchio and some supporting characters, is inconsistent, sometimes decent, sometimes distractingly off. The film also suffers from pacing issues, with scenes that drag unnecessarily or feel tonally flat. While the story largely follows the original, the changes made don't enhance the narrative and occasionally dilute its themes. There are flashes of potential, and younger audiences unfamiliar with the classic might enjoy it on a surface level, but for fans of the original, this version feels more like a glossy imitation than a heartfelt tribute. I don't understand what all the negative reviews are about but I can agree on this: Yes, Pinocchio (2022) may have misunderstood the point of the original animated film by having Pinocchio not turn into a real boy at the end. I'll admit, that does undermine the core message of the original. However, other than that, what else is there to enjoy? The CGI and visuals are pretty impressive and I would say Tom Hanks made a compelling Geppetto. I personally felt the despair he felt after losing his son. That scene at the beginning of the movie really made up for the weak message at the end. I also greatly enjoyed Alan Silvestri's score in this too. So, overall, is it great? No. I would say stick to the original. But, in a sense, I personally think that there is enough in this to make it a somewhat enjoyable time.
