Mac R @AUGUSTMACR Sep 22, 2026 Captivating period drama about the infamous St Bartholomew's Night Massacre. Brillant acting and costumes, great period music. Paris and the Louvre, the Royal Palace at the time, are haunting, murder and intrigue are hidden in every corner. Catholics feeling threatened by Hugonots decide to strike first and kill a few, or maybe a few more, or maybe a few hundred, or a few thousnd . . . Alexander Dumas writes about real historical people who had to manoever through treacherous political times and strange religious and sexual alliances. Margot is true to her feelings and stands up to her treacherous and totally ruthless immoral family, survives against all odds while showing bravery and compassion even for her sworn enemies. A must see for History buffs or fans of Barry Lyndon or The Brotherhood of the Wolf. Crucially all the performances are on point (alternately subtle and big exactly when they need to be) and the movie is unafraid to be erotic and violent, sometimes even in the same scene. See more Aug 8, 2021 Absolutely brilliant film I've watched three times and sincerely hope I have a copy on DVD or Blu-Ray (which might have been lost). Fascinating period in French history and the battles political, familial, vital and sexual between the Catholics and Huguenots. This is a film that is soooo rich both in history and visuals, it has to be one of the great films of all time. Yes, if you like a bit of titilation without verging on the pornagraphic, it's pretty hot, in the nicest of ways too. My two French favourite actors, to date, are Isabelle Adjani and Daniel Auteuil. Hats off also to Jean-Hugues Anglade, Nikita's boyfriend in La Femme Nikita. Time runs out today for more reviews but Daniel Auteuil is also a much watch in Manon des Sources and Jean de Florette. See more Feb 10, 2021 Epic in scope with actors in period costumes in an ass consuming soap-operaish drama of sex, intrigue, back-stabbing and front-stabbing action. Adjani is epic in navigating her survival (however futile) See more Aug 25, 2020 Sex movies stained with sex. Europe in the Middle Ages is the most lustful kinky sex kingdom.
