Critics Consensus

Setting the stage to slay all day, Tina Romero's feature debut is a glowing zombie-fest filled with humor and heart, proving that there's more than enough room in the genre for these Queens of the Dead.

Queens of the Dead only sometimes becomes the riotous midnight movie classic it promises to be, but the undead have never looked this fabulous.

It’s all meant to be viewed through the lens of camp, that increasingly diluted and all-too-broad category that here feels more like an excuse for the film’s flat construction than an aesthetic approach.

Queens of the Dead boasts some great performances, and gives the stage to queer actors like Katy O’Brian and Jaquel Spivey. Though we believe they could’ve gone a bit further with it, it showcases some great kills and gore.

Tina Romero carries her dad's legacy forward while making it completely her own. This is a fun, touching, and cool zombie flick that is one of the few in recent years to understand the zombie assignment.

Celebrating something like Queens of the Dead from director Tina Romero, a film harnessing all the sycophantic charms of Drag Race flavored frivolity more than it does the subversive zombie legacy of her iconic father's filmography...

you got the recipe for an anthesis of a non serious zombie movie: new York, rats, drag queens, a "straight white" guy from Stanton island, a theater (where most of the movie takes place), and social media craze. Not one scene more than 15 seconds can have a serious undertone.

Haven’t had this much fun at the movies in a long time. I cannot wait to see what’s next from Tina Romero. Loved all the nods to her father’s work as well. Also loved the fact they used some of the Day of the Dead score. This was everything I wanted it to be. Go see this.

Love Tina’s father’s films and zombies is my favorite subgenre of horror so I had to give this a watch. Its a great lil’ zombie comedy set among a unique culture and people (ballroom and LGBTQ). No alot of truly scary scenes but it was genuinely funny. I cared about the characters. I liked the little additions to"Queerify" the movie, like the zombies being glitter green. Watched it about 6 times since the first and my opinions hasnt lowered. I wish the ending was better though.
