Aly L @alyleguizamon 2 days ago Although the visual representation was almost exactly what I imagined while reading the book, the tone of Rebecca was missed and made the whole film fall flat for me. I like the settings, and even the casting, but the “je ne sais quoi” element of Rebecca was not captured, and made it feel like a retelling that lacked the proper fore-thought and care. It had all the elements to be great, but ultimately didn’t deliver. See more David S @davescott Sep 13, 2026 I don't really understand the low ratings for this film. Its a difficult watch to begin with but it is a high stress story. Although it is an adaption of the original book rather than a faithful recreation, the film evolves as do the characters into some great storytelling. It does feel as though the events of the second half of the film moves a little too fast and it switches up a gear quite suddenly rather than slowly accelerating but that would be my major criticism. The casting, screenplay and acting are brilliant. A highly recommended adaption of a classic. See more Pablo A @Alonzo0116 Sep 2, 2026 Movie is stressful. Dont waste your time. See more MICHAEL D @madjr59 Jul 4, 2026 The movie is pretty. There is enormous departure from du Maurier's novel and this hurts the presentation fatally. You have to wonder what Wheatley was thinking. See more Laura H. @Fairytalemaker Jun 21, 2026 Loved this modern retelling of a classic. Slick and stylish. The leads are charmingly in a tortured love triangle . Kristin Scott Thomas is beautifully wicked. Manderlay is gorgeous. It doesn’t follow the book’s love affair with the house, but I feel the visual impact was enough to give viewers the sense of its grandeur. And the malevolent presence of Rebecca. See more Katie L @Katie282 Mar 20, 2026 I loved this film! I was shocked to see the negative scores. I havent read the book and dont remember much about the original film, so I didnt have any prejudice about what the film "should be". In contrast to negative reviews, I really liked that the film wasnt overwrought or melodramatic. Staying slightly understated gave it a simmering suspense that I thought was very well done. I'm glad I didnt read the reviews first or I would have missed out on a very good film. See more Read all reviews
