A gently humanist story of the American West from Max Walker-Silverman (A Love Song), Rebuilding follows Dusty (Josh O'Connor), a reserved, divorced father whose ranch has burned down in a devastating wildfire. Now living in a trailer community on a government-run campsite, Dusty finds solace with his new neighbors who have also lost everything, quietly reassembles his life, and starts reconnecting with his ex-wife Ruby (Meghann Fahy) and young daughter Callie-Rose (Lily LaTorre). Filmed against the rapturous backdrop of southern Colorado, Rebuilding is a ruminative, moving portrait of resilience and human connection in the wake of loss.

It’s a sincere movie celebrating quiet resilience, Dusty’s story working hard to seek a small salvation and to redefine the idea of homecoming. Quietly but intently, it hymns the value of hope in a hard world. Go to Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Apr 21, 2026

A lovely rendering of what feels like half a story. It’s not the action its title promises, but the preceding moment of retreat to lick one’s wounds. Go to Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Apr 21, 2026

It is another highly sympathetic performance from O’Connor, who converts the British reticence of his earlier roles into Dusty’s strength and quiet vulnerability. Go to Full Review Fletcher Powell KMUW - Wichita Public Radio Jul 21, 2026
A movie that affirms our humanity doesn’t need to knock my socks off, and affirming humanity is what Rebuilding does. Go to Full Review Marta Medina Pérez mundoCine Jun 5, 2026

Simply observing the whipped-dog look of a slouched and restrained Josh O’Connor is enough for the viewer to feel the loss of that blue-barn ranch as their own. (...) It stumbles in an excessively scripted and artificial ending. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review Nando Salvá Cinemanía (Spain) Jun 4, 2026

[It's] entirely convincing in suggesting that the opportunity to reimagine what a home can mean provides them with a palpable sense of hope. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review Read all reviews
