Blake- N @PBSAniDom May 14, 2026 Robot Overlords is a decent British science fiction film that delivers a straightforward, accessible sci-fi adventure. It doesn’t aim to reinvent the genre, but it offers a solid premise that is easy to follow and engage with. The film’s concept of an occupied world controlled by machines is interesting, and it creates a familiar but entertaining dystopian backdrop. While the world-building is somewhat simplified, it still provides enough context to keep the story moving at a steady pace. The performances are serviceable, with the younger cast members doing most of the emotional lifting. The action and visual effects are modest but effective for the film’s scale and budget, giving it a consistent if not spectacular look. Overall, Robot Overlords is a watchable and fairly entertaining sci-fi film that works best as light genre viewing. It doesn’t reach standout status, but it holds its own as a simple adventure. I’d rate it a 6/10. It's a bit rushed here and there but other than that, especially considering the budget, there's not much to complain about. The story is simple and fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously but it's not too silly either. It's just good, simple entertainment. Acting is great, both by the famous stars and the less known actors. VFX are great and so is the music score. It's short, so perhaps 10 or 15 more minutes more would have helped cementing and fleshing out some of the relationships, but somehow it works anyway. This film vastly exceeded my expectations. If this received a hollywood style budget and a good script and storyboard team ... and perhaps a director who could keep it moving seamlessly through single scenes, with a decent understanding of flow, this story could have been a blockbuster with potentials of writing it towards a short 3 film Hunger Games type franchise. But as is ... its a pandemic binge time killer, soon to be forgotten ... shame. See more Read all reviews
