Critics Consensus

Sisters' sharp blend of pathos and vulgarity, along with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's effervescent chemistry, are more than enough to make up for the handful of laughs this coming-of-age comedy leaves on the table.

Whether or not Sisters is the best use of Fey's or Poehler's gifts is beside the point; they're entitled to blow off the same dopey steam that propels the likes of Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner in all those Fockers movies.

Pell's script, inspired in no small way by her own relationship with her own sister, is so smart, so genuine, as crazy as things might get the human saga at the center remains pure and realistically heartfelt no matter what.

Is Sisters a good movie? No. No, it is not. Its plot manages to be both jarring (so many twists!) and predictable; its supporting characters are thin; it makes gleeful use of tired stereotypes.

Even a go-for-broke, R-rated potty-mouthed jolt from two of our favorite, and normally buttoned-up, comediennes can't save this film.

Sisters is a house party film told by and from the perspective of women, and that is precisely why it succeeds.

How can anyone not love this film, it captures fey’s and phoeler’s range of acting and they support each other so well and it makes for great comedy, if you don’t analyse the film or take it really seriously and just watch it for fun, it’s an enjoyable two hours of your life!

Lost count of how many times I’ve watched this movie and it still makes me laugh every single time.

Tina Fey goes Adam McKay. Seemed like a way to give a bunch of her old coworkers a paycheck. Lots of old SNL cast members and some faces from 30 Rock. A few laughs in there but when you are throwing darts by the handful, a few are bound to hit.

*Personally, I found Sisters to be a corny, ’90s-style comedy that felt out of place—even when it was released. While stars like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are undeniably talented and have had great comedic moments in their careers, this film just didn’t deliver. It felt more like a forgettable streaming release than something that ever belonged in theaters. Yes, there were a few laughs here and there, but overall, the movie lacked the creativity and originality needed to stand out. The humor felt tired, the performances felt forced, and the overall vibe leaned more toward “trying too hard” than genuinely funny. It just didn’t click for me. There were even moments that felt borderline offensive—not enough to spark outrage, but enough to make me uncomfortable and question who the humor was really for. More than anything, though, I just felt bored. The story dragged, the jokes didn’t land, and the whole thing came off as stale rather than sharp. At the end of the day, Sisters is one of those films I wouldn’t recommend. It might have had some creative intent behind it, but the execution missed the mark. It’s not memorable, it’s not rewatchable, and for me, it’ll be one of those movies I quickly forget ever existed.
