a mostly derivative movie for the first hour and a fairly solid final twenty-five minutes devoted to mixing some horror tropes in a fresh way with a message about women’s autonomy and a child’s well-being

This movie had the ingredients for a creepy horror film, but almost none of them work. The devil looks more goofy than frightening, and his son is just as underwhelming. The relationship drama (bisexual sh*t) also became repetitive and distracting instead of adding much to the story. What could've been genuinely scary ends up feeling frustrating, silly, and ultimately like a waste of time.

A Deliberate, Atmosphere-Driven Descent Into Horror Son of Sara favors psychological tension over conventional scares, crafting an unsettling atmosphere that lingers beneath every frame. The direction shows confidence in restraint, allowing silence, carefully composed imagery, and measured pacing to generate unease rather than relying on excessive jump scares. The performances ground the supernatural elements with emotional credibility, while the cinematography and sound design reinforce the film's oppressive mood. Although its slow-burn structure may test some viewers' patience, the payoff is both haunting and thematically resonant. Son of Sara stands as a thoughtful genre entry that values mood, character, and psychological depth as much as horror itself. A compelling and elegantly crafted horror film that rewards patient viewers. 8.5/10.
