Carlos (Douglas Spain) dreams of becoming an actor, but Pepe, his old man (Efrain Figueroa), won't have it. Instead of pursuing his dreams, Carlos will work in the more practical family business: male prostitution. Carlos joins the ranks of hustlers on the streets of Los Angeles, pretending to sell maps to the stars' homes. After a soap opera actress hires him for his services, she persuades the show's producers to allow Carlos a small role. Then Carlos watches his dream become a nightmare.

One of this year's requisite Sundance buzz-magnets. Star Maps has a queasy way of snowballing into dizzy psychodrama, and a knack for eluding cliches that is smart and sometimes amazing.

Representing an uneasy balance of Latino melodrama and arthouse fare, the film tells a lurid story (about a patriarch who's a pimp to his son) in crude manner with occasional lyrical touches; Arteta's next feature will show whether he has real talent

Douglas Spain plays a guy living in LA that "sells" Star Maps to anybody "willing to pay." This is a VERY common practice here in Hollywood...but they aren't really selling "star maps." The movie explores the sexual good & bad of living in California. Spain is an excellent actor!

[b]What About Bob[/b], directed by Frank Oz, stars Bill Murray as a neurotic man obsessed with phobias. Richard Dreyfuss plays his psychologist. [b]When A Man Loves A Woman[/b], directed by Luis Mandoki, stars Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia as a married couple wrecked by her alcholism. [b]Fled[/b], directed by Kevin Hooks, stars Lawrence Fishburn and Stephen Baldwin as escaping convicts who hate each other. [/size]

Synopsis
