Sara (Sandy Dennis), a free-spirited single woman living in Brooklyn, invites a new man to stay with her every month. For Sara, this is an opportunity to expose a man to new things, but it's also a way to make sure she will always be remembered by someone. Her latest boarder is Charlie (Anthony Newley), an uptight British businessman. Things, however, don't go as planned, and the two fall in love. Despite this, Charlie cannot stay any longer than his allotted month.

The assumption of the film, that by casually picking up a stranger at a motor vehicle bureau and scratching his businessman's heart she would uncover a repressed poet, is too bizarre to be believed. Go to Full Review Pauline Kael The New Yorker Jul 6, 2022
The direction, by Robert Ellis Miller, is flat -- as if neither he nor anyone else had any confidence in the material. He and the rest were right, of course. Go to Full Review Colin Bennett The Age (Australia) Mar 3, 2022
Miss Dennis retains a lot of -- damn it -- charm. Or maybe it was the Michel Legrand score. Or maybe I was just refreshed to come across such honest sentimentality; in 1968, a rare breed of picture. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Chuck V @Rutland15 Jul 11, 2024 I’m not a rom-com fan but there a few that I like and Sweet November is one of them, I thought Sandy Dennis and Anthony Newley had enough chemistry to make it believable, it was very easy to put myself in his shoes and feel the hurt and pain that he was going through and how can you not fall in love with Sandy Dennis? See more Julie B @RT06180755 May 5, 2024 Story had promise, but kinda lost its charm somewhere along the way. I did like seeing old NYC, the actors, hearing the poems, and that had to be Anthony singing the theme song at the end. Sad ending alert. See more ashley h @ashleyhobgood87 Dec 26, 2019 Sweet November is a decent film. It is about a woman lures emotionally crippled men into affairs and then helps them repair their lives. Sandy Dennis and Anthony Newley give good performances. The script is a little slow in places. Robert Ellis Miller did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the humor and romance. See more s r @ScottR Sep 30, 2014 Silly Rom-Com, but a nice look at the old NYC.
