Bill T @btreakle Jul 7 “Tender Mercies” I love the theme of this movie about a singer-songwriter country singer kind of lost his way. Robert Duvall plays this country singer I’m not quite sure if he actually did the singing himself but it wasn’t too bad. But I think the idea of this story the main point was that it's never too late to start anew start a new beginning with faith and trust. This is one of the uh last Robert Duvall movies that I have on my list I’m sure there’s others out there but I’ve watched a bunch of them that I never knew existed. I recommend this one I think that most people would like this is set During the time with the Vietnam War. I know Duvall won an Oscar and golden globe for his performance which was deserved I don't believe this is his best movie or performance. The ending was underwhelming and a little cheesy. I was engaged by this film and it’s implicitly, yet that there was more to this story than what was initially portrayed. It had a good cast and simple plot, but managed to keep me interested with its acting. Saw on box. Exquisite acting by Robert Duvall and the whole cast. One of the most interesting scenes is where Mac lies to his daughter about remembering a lullaby he used to sing to her. It was as if he were afraid of the close moment they could have shared if he had been honest and told her he remembered the lullaby. Such understated performances by all including Allan Hubbard whom was so believable as a little boy moving through life without his bio dad whom died so young he has no memories of him. Duvall deserved the Oscar also the song "Over you" was well written catchy. This is a short sweet film. It is a flawless, nuanced, lived in, subtle work of pure craftsmanship. Tess Harper is also outstanding and the cast is perfect.
