While shopping at an outdoor market, young reporter Tintin (Jamie Bell), accompanied by his faithful dog, Snowy, buys a model of an old ship called the Unicorn. A shady character named Sakharine (Daniel Craig) and later an American named Barnaby (Joe Starr) try to buy the model from him, but Tintin refuses. The lad discovers that the ship contains a clue about a hidden treasure, but before he can locate it, Tintin is kidnapped and given over to the custody of drunken Capt. Haddock (Andy Serkis).

Critics Consensus

Drawing deep from the classic Raiders of the Lost Ark playbook, Steven Spielberg has crafted another spirited, thrilling adventure in the form of Tintin.

[The] Adventures of Tintin is what you'd expect: a competent Hollywood stunt-fest.

Like the thrill-sapping hero and anti-climactic denouement, it botches the full satisfaction of adrenaline adventure.

There are so many variables moving so fast that it's a wonder Spielberg didn't have someone onboard from Princeton's department of Higher Math to help keep track. But his crack team here is enough.

Spielberg’s genius-level control and trademarked energy throughout will make the film an easy sell for animation buffs and suckers for a good adventure.

The Adventures of Tintin really captures the spirit of a classic action/adventure film while taking advantage of the motion-capture format to deliver some simply stunning action sequences.

A fantastic adventure directed by Steven Spielberg! With incredible visual effects, plenty of inventive action, and a memorable Captain Haddock, it perfectly captures the mysterious and fun spirit of the original comics.

I thought it was pretty good but occasionally a little disjointed and hard to follow. I really like the newer animation that almost looks real. It's definitely not suitable for the little ones since there's some intense violence about two thirds of the way through.
