Unfortunately, The Family suffers from an extreme case of advanced tonal disorder. Go to Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Nov 24, 2013

It's throwaway stuff, packed with corny gags about rich French cooking and annoying Gallic manners, in which light relief is offered by the sight of our hero torturing a plumber; think The Whole Nine Yards with cheese. Go to Full Review Charlotte O'Sullivan London Evening Standard Nov 22, 2013

Clearly, De Niro is happy to cannibalise his glorious past, but for those of us who love him, it's like sucking on old bones. Go to Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Aug 23, 2022

The Family mishandles almost every attempt at humor and tries to make a lovable, “Tony Soprano Lite” character out of Giovanni, except the paterfamilias is far too mean-spirited to win us over. Go to Full Review Sarah Brinks Battleship Pretension Feb 24, 2021

The tone shifts drastically from comedy to drama to action, while wasting character development on asinine subplots. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Robert P @Superbad Sep 14, 2026 The Family = a *2* star Movie! See more Y B @RT09008921 Aug 14, 2026 Wow, a movie that actually made me want to keep watching instead of checking my phone every five minutes—what a concept! For once, I didn’t predict the entire plot by the time the opening credits finished rolling. The writing? Sharp enough to slice bread. The acting? If carrying a film were an Olympic sport, this cast would have snatched gold, silver, and bronze. And come on, who didn’t get a wicked little thrill watching Michelle Pfeiffer torch the shop of that rude shop owner? Pure, cathartic cinema. See more David H @rivrocks Aug 7, 2026 It tries to be clever and humorous and fun. It fails on all counts. It is occasionally jarring, but not for the right reasons. At least the young'uns can say they've worked with legends. See more Travis M @TMorg007 Jul 10, 2026 Couldn't finish this throwaway. Once relevant actors phone in forgettable performances. Don't waste your time. See more Suzanne D @RT53336744 Jul 10, 2026 Boring, predictable, corny. C'mon folks. This was a huge waste of Hollywood talent. Do better. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Mar 7, 2026 Funny action movie in 1 hour and 51 minutes. Ages 17 and older. See more Read all reviews
