On a remote Scottish isle, siblings Isla and Sandy spend their days hunting seabirds and retelling the stories of their ancestors. They follow the strict rules inherited from their late father -- protect the island, allow no incomer, survive -- until one day, Daniel, an awkward and socially inept council official, arrives to evacuate them. Bringing with him the strange mainland ways of laws, paperwork, veganism and internet wizardry, he turns their world upside down. As long-held beliefs begin to crumble, each of them must confront the truth, embrace change, and dare to imagine a life beyond the island while fighting to preserve the heritage they have sworn to defend.

Gleeson, Rankin and O’Rourke all have screen presence to burn. And as it goes with more than a few movies set in Scotland, the scenery is gorgeous even when other elements feel strained. Go to Full Review

Why does Europe do "small movie" so much better than America does? Over here, everything has to be so big, so star-studded, so...IMPORTANT. And here comes this darling little Scottish ditty where three unfamiliar actors talk to each other...and I'm smitten. Sunshine in my bones. A surprisingly relatable premise in an other-worldly setting, a believable yet unbelievable script, delivered by actors that fully commit to their roles. See more Read all reviews
