Set in 1967, THE MIRACLE CLUB is a heartwarming film that follows the story of three generations of close friends, Lily (Maggie Smith), Eileen (Kathy Bates), and Dolly (Agnes O'Casey) of Ballygar, a hard-knocks community in Dublin, who have one tantalizing dream: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes, that place of miracles that draws millions of visitors each year. When the chance to win presents itself, the women seize it. However, just before their trip, their old friend Chrissie (Laura Linney) arrives in Ballygar for her mother's funeral, dampening their good mood and well-laid plans. The women secure tickets and set out on the journey that they hope will change their lives, with Chrissie, a skeptical traveler, joining in place of her mother. The glamor and sophistication of Chrissie, who has just returned from a nearly 40-year exile in the United States, are not her only distancing traits: Old wounds are reopened along the way, forcing the women to confront their pasts even as they travel in search of a miracle. Their shared traumas can only be healed by the curative power of love and friendship.

It’s trite and predictable stuff: the laughs are forced; the pathos is over-stewed. Go to Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Oct 14, 2023

While there’s nothing outrightly stereotypical here, The Miracle Club suffers from being both sentimental and superficial. It’s exactly the sort of film you suspect was made to cater to American, rather than Irish tastes. Go to Full Review John Nugent Empire Magazine Oct 13, 2023

Some likeable performances — and solid Irish accents — can’t save a dreary parade of clichés. Pray that the Lord forgives these cinematic sins. Go to Full Review Yuliia Riabova Film Ireland Magazine Oct 14, 2025

The Miracle Club only aims to find comfort and kindness, as if its movie goal is to be consumed on rainy afternoons under the warm company of a plush blanket. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review Read all reviews

See more Paloma Aug 28, 2023 The Miracle Club was a enjoyable because of the incredible acting of Laura Linney, Maggie Smith, and Kathy Bates. The script was predictable and very surface level, so there was nothing to bite your teeth into. See more cathy s Aug 27, 2023 Boring, pointless & not realistic. Maybe delve into why after 40 years a woman is unable to forgive herself for a self abortion. Subject matter was not relatable to very many I assume. Maybe if your an Irish Catholic you may relate?!
