Critics Consensus

With a cast this talented, The Out-Laws can't help but provide some laughs -- but they're too few and far between to make up for the movie's derivative, sitcom-worthy setup.

The Out-Laws is good for a few chuckles, but not much more.

DeVine manages to make unapologetic dweebishness charming, and the movie is elevated by a mish-mash of wonderful character-actor bit parts.

Everything you need to know about this movie can be gleaned from its title. That's rarely a good sign.

C

For a Netflix movie that was obviously reverse-engineered from its title, and even more obviously made by the director of The Wrong Missy, Tyler Spindel’s The Out-Laws could be a hell of a lot worse.

Despite its star cast, The Outlaws never feels bigger than a made-for-TV movie. If you paid to see it on the big screen you’d certainly feel robbed, but it gets away with being a decent enough, watch-and-forget viewing on a rainy winter night.

Mostly just undemanding, amusing stupidity, which used to be taken as a mild compliment back when comedy was actually a genre of movie that got made.

This film was losing me for the first 30 minutes of the runtime. I saw where it was going, and the story beats were making me groan more often than laugh. But then, around the vegan bakery scene, the movie suddenly got really good and really funny. Once the premise is done and it is just Adam Devine, Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin working off each other, that is when the movie has some legitimate laughs and surprising heart. Half the movie is hard to sit through, but the other half has some good jokes.

my mom wanted to watch it. I legit hated it. I've actually never kept such a straight face before until now. it was the most unfunniest thing ever. the main character is genuinely frustrating and watching this movie made me feel stressed and awkward so I genuinely just walked out of the room, DNF

The story line is pretty good. Could have been written a little bit better. Maybe it’s not what I expected because Adam Sandler didn’t star in the movie.

This movie was defmitely not the best of 2023, not close to the best comedies out there, but it was enjoyable. This is a perfect family movie. No nudity or anything like that. A good movie these days is a rare thing, especially comedies. Its obviously low budget but that's why I rated it only a 3. A lot of room for improvement here and a bit goofy. But it kept me entertained all the way through, and that's what matters. There's just one issue which I don't get it, maybe a plot hole towards the end, I don't want to give spoilers but that didn't make sense. Otherwise very good comedy. But I guess sometimes you just have to realize its a movie, just to have fun, and not think so seriously about it. Acting was alright, pace was fantastic, never a dull moment
