Too often this feels like a home movie, or cosy clips montage, for family members only. Go to Full Review

There is a kind of lonely heroism here, and who can tell if, in this digitised world where recordings are so easily available, that his views might not come into fashion? A strong, unassuming picture. Go to Full Review

Though visually sumptuous and decently acted, The Yellow Tie doesn’t attain transcendence. Go to Full Review

A sincere, sometimes uneven attempt to bridge gaps—between father and son, between past and present, between art as lived experience and art as something shaped for an audience. Go to Full Review

nicolas B @RT55252662 1 day ago This film tells the story of the legendary conductor Sergiu Celibidache, whose extraordinary life truly deserved to be brought to the big screen. The magnificent music, combined with Ben Schnetzer’s remarkable performance, creates a deeply moving and captivating experience. You leave the cinema with goosebumps. See more Marc D @RT06102708 6 days ago Inspiring true story, very refreshing in the AI-age of generalized fakeness, of a man who made many sacrifices, survived wars and hatred, on a mission to take live classical music at its highest level of perfection possible. I had never seen classical music concerts filmed this way, with so much drama and emotions, I wish these scenes could have lasted much longer!! See more Sarah C @RT31690917 Oct 3, 2026 An inspiring film that celebrates the pursuit of passion while touching on relatable themes of global turmoil, cultural heritage, and family dynamics. There's a surprising amount of depth beneath the surface, with many of the finer details becoming clearer once you're familiar with Celibidache's life story, making it a film that benefits from multiple viewings. The film is anchored by outstanding performances from Ben Schnetzer, Kate Phillips, and Tamzin Merchant, whose compelling portrayals bring warmth, depth, and authenticity to the story. Perhaps most importantly, it is refreshing to see a Romanian story brought to life by a predominantly Romanian cast and crew. Their commitment to the film is evident through every frame, but also highlights the depth of Romania’s culture, history, and artistic talent to an international audience. See more Selina C @RT27953807 Oct 3, 2026 A beautiful biographical drama that feels both monumentally grand and intensely intimate. The result is not just a tribute to a legendary conductor but a masterpiece about artistic uncompromising vision and the heavy price of a genius! A spectacular achievement that is visually stunning and emotionally powerful. See more Dulwich M @Dulwichmum Oct 3, 2026 I had never even heard of the conductor/composer Celibidache, which adds to the poignancy of this film as his story uniquely needs telling. As he rejected the recording of his work, believing music must be experienced live, his fame has increasingly diminished after his passing. Thankfully his son and writer/producer James Olivier have brought his story so movingly to life, which echoes with the painful history of Europe of World War II. Of course, it’s the human story that draws you in here; it’s astonishing how Celibidache first rebelled against his father, forfeiting his family’s wealth and status, to pursue his musical career and then again forfeiting wealth and positions to stubbornly produce music entirely live. It’s a thrilling story to see, performed by a stellar cast with a production value that ironically brings his music alive and moving to another generation and for posterity. I was dazzled— and enlightened! Bravo! See more Radu M @RT75879047 Oct 2, 2026 Beyond its educational value, its superb cinematography, and the strength of its performances, with Ben Schnetzer absolutely extraordinary, what struck me most profoundly was the music. The film made me rediscover Bruckner, while Enesco came as an astonishing revelation. I left the cinema with a feeling that is difficult to define: permeated by music, filled with inspiration, and deeply grateful for having experienced this masterpiece. See more Read all reviews
