I was only 14 but I lived in the cinema and seeing this on the big screen with the exceptional sound track by Wang Chung blew me away. It stayed with me for the ensuing 41 years as one of my favourite films. I watched it again last night with my 17-year-old son. I was still blown away by the incredible cinematography, the performances, particularly from Willem Defoe and William Petersen and that car chase. Of course it was of its time and many things would be slicker today, but the script with its moral ambiguity is still as brilliant as ever. I still love the music and you can understand why Defoe went on to become such a huge star. There are not many films that struck me so much on release and still work for me today, but this is one of them. Top Gun is probably another. I can still remember seeing that as a 15 year old and again and again over the years and never being disappointed. See more Rick T @Slash_wisdom Jul 17 This one was on the radar for quite some time. I finally got around to watching it. And it does not disappoint. It has a lethal weapon vibe to it before lethal weapon. It centers around a very young Willem Dafoe who makes phony money. And after losing his partner Chance becomes obsessed with bringing Masters the guy responsible for it down. It's a fun film and it is shot really well. Definitely worth the watch and it just reminds you they don't make em like this anymore. See more Frans B @FransB Jul 14 Brilliant. Friedkin certainly can do. Very well written and brought to screen. Great cinematography lends itself to the relevant ambiance. Very capable cast all delivers convincingly in character. Perhaps one of the best '80's action / thrillers. Lots of action, Wang Chung 😜, all sorts of skullduggery, coke (not the fizzy one), cars chases, shootouts, fights, blood, gunshots, suspense, frustration, intrigue, drama and emotion. The movie looks great, Petersen, Defoe, Pankow, Turturro etc. are great, it has a really surprising twist at the end, but the ending for me is also the achilles heel of the movie and without it, it would have been rated at least at 4 stars. Oh and yes, the main character Richard Chance is an devoted, but not a really good cop, the more he gets ruthless the less I root for him and how easy Cody can escape...well, in a movie world of super cops its actually nice to see an amateur at work 😇 Still its a cool movie, again, the visuals are brilliant, I wouldn't rate the car chase too high (and I guess it has to be viewed on the big screen), but that's not so important, especially Willem Defoe stands out for me here.
