The film is given a contemporary tone thanks to Albert Glasser's booming jazz score and characters speaking in beat poet slang. Go to Full Review

The story is decent and some individual scenes click, but the low-budget production values and some weak acting from the supporting players hurt. Go to Full Review

'She's dead,' muses Richard Carlson. 'She doesn't exist. She's a perfume, she's a footprint, she's a hand, she's a face in a picture...' In other words, she sure is present for something that 'doesn't exist'; isn't that the way 'dead' loves tend to be? Go to Full Review

Though it's passable entertainment, the ghost story developments are too ridiculous to be even considered real possibilities. Go to Full Review

Bert I. Gordon is most well known for his low-budget 1950s sci-fi pics, but this little seen relic of 1960 is actually one of his better efforts. It is also one of the more entertaining installments of the always enjoyable Mystery Science Theater 3000. Go to Full Review

Joel H @786Joel 3 days ago Tormented is an appropriate name for this movie, because that is exactly how I felt while watching it. I’m trying not to judge this film too harshly because of the poor video and audio quality on the version I saw, but it certainly didn’t help. Even though last 15 minutes of this story are actually pretty good, the 60 minutes that came before were long, drawn-out, and dreadfully dull. Even Vi Mason, the Marilyn Monroe lookalike, didn’t make this movie any more watchable. In fact, the ghostly visual effects are more likely to bring out laughs than screams. Don’t watch Tormented without MST3K. Trust me. See more That boi C @RT94044319 Nov 26, 2025 this movie was spooky the music was cool, ranges from eerie choir vocalizations to smooth jazz music, the story was cool and i was honestly rooting for tom until the end when he tries to kill sandy. i think he honestly got what he deserved but i felt bad for everyone else who saw him die and didn’t know he was actually evil, i like this movie but some of it was frustrating and weird and downright stupid at points but it was fun to watch so it served its purpose. cool vintage supernatural thriller with a unique plot line and setting See more Simon T @MovieTart Feb 10, 2024 Blithe Spirit with lighthouses. Terrible schlock made the same year as Psycho, but not that you'd notice. Ageing jazz pianist (King of the Bs Richard Carlson, looking embarrassed throughout) allows his squeeze to plummet to her death so he can marry his other squeeze. Highlights of this turkey are the blind housekeeper and Carlson's terrible miming of playing the piano. Profoundly stupid and - as with most drive-in movies incredibly slow. See more Blobbo X @Blobbo Nov 2, 2023 Memorable in funny way. Paul Frees' voice replace dad voice. (Blobbo wonder why.) See more Chris M @RT21954632 Nov 15, 2022 Again, this would be a great "Twilight Zone" episode over a feature length film as there is a lot of padding and filler. But this has a dumb fun that you can riff. Like the fact they should have used a model of the lighthouse over super imposing a real lighthouse that was suppose to be rundown, because you can see the windows are intact in some scene are broken in others. Normally Burt I. Gordon shitty effects work here. As the blurring, transparent and cutting things off gives Vi the ghostly effect that works, even if it's by accident. A good bad movie to riff and have fun with. See more John R @RT65756385 Apr 23, 2022 A genuinely interesting premise, but the execution was just so ham-handed as to be mind-numbingly stupid. If it weren't for MST3k, this would not have been worth the time. See more Read all reviews
