See more Juliana A @RT65601934 Sep 26, 2026 *Two Prosecutors* is a beautifully photographed, deeply Kafkaesque journey into the absurd machinery of Soviet bureaucracy, where every attempt to find an answer only leads to another corridor, another office, another unanswered question. The austere, almost oppressive cinematography turns the architecture of power into a psychological landscape, while the plot gradually reveals a world in which terror has become procedural and obedience almost automatic. There is something of Kafka and Gogol in its mixture of the grotesque and the terrifying, but what makes the film truly unsettling is its quietest idea: the nightmare is not that the system has gone mad, but that it is functioning exactly as intended. The film presents a powerful and disturbing idea about justice within a corrupt system. However, its slow pace and cold tone make it emotionally distant despite its heavy themes. Strong direction and atmosphere are evident, but the characters feel more symbolic than human. Ultimately, it’s a thoughtful and important film that earns respect—but not emotional engagement. Outstanding leading performances, combined with a powerful and oppressive visual language: narrow grey streets, claustrophobic buildings, endless corridors and staircases. Again and again, we hear the metallic sound of steel doors opening and slamming shut — a recurring motif that becomes increasingly terrifying. The film inevitably evokes Kafka’s The Castle. Yet Two Prosecutors feels even colder, more merciless and more immediate. It portrays the terror of authoritarian state power under Stalin and the devastating powerlessness of citizens who still believe in justice, freedom and human dignity. A deeply disturbing film — and, precisely for that reason, a highly relevant one today. See more Runa R @runa.r Jul 3, 2026 Although this story is true, it's so unbelievable that you almost lose your way in its twists and turns. I'm talking about the real-life events from the Stalinist era, not the film itself. The film conveys very well what happened at the time and how dictators – or human beings in general – can become utterly consumed by the pursuit of power. Power has a profound effect on the human mind; it's genuinely pathological. And the most incredible thing is that there's always a crowd of people willing to follow them. See more Read all reviews
