In the adorably different town of Uglyville, weirdness is celebrated, strangeness is special and beauty is embraced as more than meets the eye. After traveling to the other side of a mountain, Moxy and her UglyDoll friends discover Perfection -- a town where more conventional dolls receive training before entering the real world to find the love of a child. Soon, the UglyDolls learn what it means to be different -- ultimately realizing that they don't have to be perfect to be amazing.

Critics Consensus

Very young viewers may be entertained by UglyDolls -- if only because they're less likely to recognize the many familiar elements in its affirmative yet formulaic story.

With the school holidays on, this movie is a colourful and entertaining 90 minutes for kids under 10. The songs are easy on the ear and there are a couple of good jokes for the adult minders.

It's all pretty derivative but also pretty wacky, and there's meaning, if you look for it, on a whole lot of levels, from Freudian imagery and hints of religious allegory to the satire of reality TV.

Not so much a movie as a contemplative space wherein the viewer ... explores the shifting dynamic between the eponymous plush toys and the hegemony of play.

It’s incredibly tedious, and slightly obnoxious. Yet the execution of its ideas are so devoid of integrity – right down to the problematic ending – that you forget about it almost instantly.

A movie that can bring real emotion and feeling is a movie that well worth the time and good for your kids and adults. UGLY DOLLS is above average for the sub-genre of kids entertainment and is good for developing minds and hearts.

UglyDolls is a surprisingly well-crafted animated film that delivers a message about acceptance, individuality, and realizing that you don’t have to be perfect to have value. The movie has a creative concept and characters that are easy to connect with. The voice cast is one of its biggest strengths. Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and Nick Jonas all bring personality to their characters, while the music adds another layer of fun. Janelle Monáe also contributes to a soundtrack that helps give the movie plenty of energy. I thought the characters were developed well, and the story does a good job reminding audiences that being different isn’t something you should be ashamed of. Unfortunately, I feel like the movie didn’t receive the publicity or attention it deserved, which is disappointing because there is genuinely something enjoyable here. Ultimately, UglyDolls is a cute, creative, and uplifting film that deserves more recognition. It’s definitely worth checking out,

I always loved uglydolls tbh but the only thing that didn't make sense was that the dolls take it offense when they get called ugly but in the beginning of the movie they like it when they get called ugly and take it as a compliment but I still love watching uglydolls

Me and the kid watched it in theaters. I thought it was fun, and the kid enjoyed it. We still reference it years later.
