Kara S @RT48036100 Aug 29, 2026 Really look forward to this movie, but it is like a long music video with some dialogue thrown in to make a story. Unfortunately it is not well developed as a movie. The best character is the actor with downs. He does a great job. See more Par H @Parhwy Aug 12, 2026 What About Sal (2023) is a 97-minute-long Australian comedy I saw on Netflix in August 2026. As I watch more films more critically in 2026, I have come to this realisation: Just because a film has a good message, does not make it a good film. Such is What About Sal (that said, the story itself has contradictions). The acting, by some - more takes could have helped (esp. removing that clipped final T, Summer Bay way of talking). There is a still camera shot on a square frame… and the camera is moving a little. As a part-time alcie and full-time atheist, I reacted poorly to the end scenes, yet I would argue that the end scenes involving the father were, excuse the pun, piss poor writing/story. The comedy is strong as a shared teabag. This film is great when Sal is in Samwise-mode. Additionally, whoever played the homeless alcoholic (unnamed, unlisted on IMDb), wow, actually fantastic. Sydney suburbs, streets, etc, get a good showing. Rewatch? No. Recommend? No. 4/10 (maybe even a 3/10). See more Bruce F @RT61783102 Nov 11, 2025 What a great movie. See more Tracey M @RT53078411 Nov 11, 2025 Gerard O’Dwyer in the lead role of Sal is an excellent actor, bringing real emotion. I laughed, cried and cheered watching this movie. I’ll be looking out for more of Gerard’s work. See more Bloke M @RT72044841 Nov 11, 2025 Outstanding film a moving feel good drama. Has great comedy mixed with the drama and an outstanding performance from the brilliant Gerard O'Dwyer. Written directed and starring the legendary John Jarratt he shines here in a well written film that has plenty to offer for everyone. The Great Peter Hehir is back on the screen after a break from movies and is brilliant. A touching film that will have you laughing and crying. See more Read all reviews
