Critics Consensus

Fatally undermined by dodgy accents and a questionable story, Wild Mountain Thyme is a baffling misfire for a talented filmmaker and impressive cast.

Loud and obnoxious...quite astonishingly panned, and it's so bad that there's an outside possibility it might become a marginal cult classic. But honestly? I doubt it.

Shanley has an Oscar and a Pulitzer (he wrote the sublime Moonstruck, and the stage and screen versions of Doubt). Here, that's easy to forget...

Paddywhackery of the highest order is delivered in this execrable rom-com that's almost surreal in its unashamed awfulness.

The script feels old-fashioned, offering contrasting results throughout the duration of the movie: sometimes it is adorable, sometimes reprehensible. Nevertheless, it offers warm moments filled with nostalgic longing for romantic epics.

Such a wonderful, artistic, slow-time film. Ignore the negative review, pour yourself a cup of tea and enjoy!

This adaptation was amazing, the slow pace, the lackluster writing. The characters being quirky and strange. The colors were beautiful, the way they pulled stage play in, like a downfall of rain from what seemed to be a straight bucket pour. I cannot explain how this movie combined bare bones and whimsy. It’s wasn’t a cutesy romance movie, it was strange. It was like a fever dream of a really mundane person. The music sang was emotion brimmed, while the dialogue was scarce, colorful, stripped, and funny all at once. I can’t explain how something so simple could make me laugh, how sets and scenes so bland could be so moving. I cannot recommend this enough.

I liked it, the language was very poetic. Wonderful cast - delightful surprise to see Christopher Walken it it. Both leads were great. Out of the ordinary slow burn love story.

Slow start but came to really enjoy it. Was a feel good movie. It was funny at times. Sad at times. Would definitely encourage people to watch. So much better feeling happy, rather than feeling anxious and angry after watching some of the violent movies that are on constantly.

Quirky, unexpected, hilarious, heartwarming... I absolutely love this movie. I'm so surprised by the ratings! In my estimation this movie is an absolute gem.
