Stone manages to give it a well-intentioned treatment that often honors the heroism of the rescuers, but its plot slowly collapses when it stretches out the episodes of familiar clichés and far-fetched sentimentality. Gregory S Dec 24 This is a great movie, and you can tell that everyone involved cared for the telling of it. I cried, laughed, and also got angry again. I am thankful that I was serving during this time and was able to bring a few of these pathetic losers to justice. We will NEVER forget. M Jul 4 A sentimental, visually stunning and very interesting mix of a disaster movie with a docudrama tribute to the real life tragedy by Oliver Stone. While some will feel like Nicolas Cage's and Michael Pena's performances were not utilized to it's fullest, as they spend the great majority of the movie lying in the dark under rubble, i sincerely disagree. Their performances are definetely one of the best things about this movie, and probably the only actual level of emotional this movie can get to someone that was not directly affected by 9/11, which is a big factor to consider while viewing this. The movie usually gets dragged down by Michael Shannon pointless and borderline tasteless character of Marine Seargent Dave Karnes, who bring nothing to the table other than to be the one guy who coincidentally spotted Officer Jimeno amongst the rubble, even though the movie could have easily just took a random guy to fill in the spot, and we would not have to sit through his needless background story. The family drama scenes also take a while to actually get good, but even then never reach the true level of emotion the movie actually wants to have. Despite all of this, World Trade Center still remains a inspirational and visually amazing tale of hope, fuelled by Oliver Stone immersive direction. See more Read all reviews
